Wrapping Up Saturday Morning!

a big hello to you this gorgeous saturday!

earlier in the week
mr p asked me if i could make something for a four year old's birthday.
it is for his friend's niece.

so on wednesday i cut out a cushion cover...
this morning there it was looking at me..still unsewn.
an hour later
after discovering that my buttonholer won't work ...at all...
just keeps sewing on the same spot...what the???
i made a simple envelope opening/closing cover
instead.

then of course i wrapped it up without thinking of taking a photo!

here are the elements...

add some of your wild imaginationings...

and this..that i made a couple of weeks ago...

+

bright yellow tissue paper
hot pink wrapping paper
loud lime ribbon
black/pink polka dotted tape

=

...and it was a wrap!

oh!
and then there was this most delicious chocolatey scent
wafting over from the kitchen...

mr m {just back home to stay for a while}
had made these...

chocolate date scones {biscuits in american speak}
topped liberally with coconut

no...i've never eaten these before either!

i was assured that there was only 2 tablespoons of brown sugar in the whole mix,
so i had a couple for brunch..yum!

knowing him,
he would have just made up the recipe as he went along.
it was well worth filling up the pantry for last night...
doing that big grocery shop i've been putting off a while..hehe!

enjoy your weekend...

Three Boxes...

of quilts!

hi,

i've had a bloggy break forced upon me in the last week and a bit
by my computer.
it decided to go slow..
then slower
until on tuesday morning,
just when three big boxes arrived
that i desperately wanted to tell you about;
it wouldn't even switch on.

nothing
nought
zero
no fan
just the sound of silence!

then last night
it switched on
but the internet kept returning to the home page!

this morning
mr t did his thing
and got it working for me again...
{he said one of the reasons for a 'go slow'
was that mr m had recorded a whole nights worth of moto gp..motorbike racing
at philip island!...40 gb worth!}

here are the boxes that arrived last tuesday...

i stacked them up in the front room to photograph
&
poor kara freaked out...

at first she wouldn't go past them
then with some encouragement
she raced past them and leapt on my lap...eeek!
she's not a small dog!

after the photoshoot
i took one box off and she was fine..haha

what was in the boxes?

quilts for queensland
from the delightful corrie...'retromummy'
from sydney
who has been working all year
...since the january floods...
to coordinate a quilt drive
for the flood affected people of queensland.

these quilts
will actually travel back down to brisbane
in a week and a half
to be taken further to ipswich,
where there are 1700 people
still living in conditions which were flood affected!

the organisation 'habitat for humanity'
will distribute these quilts to people who
could do with cheering up
and who need them...

there are all kinds..
for babies,
boys and  girls,
teenagers
and
adults.

a big thank you
on behalf of queenslanders
for all the creative effort
that has gone into making these special quilts
by people all around australia!

i know they will be admired and treasured...
and used.

all being well
with the computer,
see ya later...

ps...sorry to read that elodie is sick, corrie..i hope she is recovering fast. it is so worrying when babies are ill, especially for their parents.

A Pink Parcel!

good morning all!
i'm joining in with 'my creative space'..at kootoyoo this morning...

before christmas,
i put my name down with maree from 'on my verandah'
to take part in my very first swap ever.

{thanks maree for organising this...they don't happen by themselves!}

it was a 'colour swap'.
the colour i chose was 'pink'!

the partner i had wanted 'red'
so i put together some red stuff and sent it away
i had to get some red thread
a fat quarter in red
a red treat
and include something pretty that was red...

that was a lot of fun

anyway
melody sent me some pink stuff...

that's the lovely 'dog' card..and you know i love dogs...
thanks melody..very thoughtful,
my georgeous variegated pink embroidery thread..
haha! i was just thinking of buying more variegated thread..
so it's just what i wanted.

the very pretty fat quarter is what i've used as a background
...a 'table cloth' to put everything on to show you all.

i was showing off to my brother on the weekend
and he wanted a piece of the coconut ice that melody sent
so that was opened immediately
and we all scoffed it for morning tea! yum!

there was also a pink packet of 'droste' chocolate pastilles
and
cute hot pink foil wrapped chocolate hearts
...talk about spoiled!

do you see that beautiful rosy magnet there,
that cute pencil
and a little package wrapped in clear cellophane
with soap and a tube of hand cream..wow..
and the pink ribbon she wrapped the parcel with?

but i haven't even got to the best part yet...

i reckon the very best of all
was that she made that amazing mug rug
and dilly bag
that i will be able to keep forever!

i just love the fabrics she's used in them too.

so
thank you melody,
what a treat!

i hope someone has treated you too today...

Perfect Love...

just thought i'd explain myself.
yesterday,
my post was called
"fearless friday"...

today,
i realised
that nobody would know
why...

in my head
i had thought;
thankyou Lord for the people
who cared about
my vision problem.
that's love.

and thank you Lord,
for the opportunity
to send a little love to a little girl.

then i thought
of  the book of 1john, chapter 4, verse 18,
which says...

"there is no fear in love:
but perfect love casts out fear"

so it got me thinking that love is fearless,
hence, "fearless friday".

i was thrilled to read Carrie's post in Cottage Cozy,
{see my link on the right}
'cos she also gets a thrill out of helping out
and sharing a little love around;
paying it forward type of stuff.

ps...love may be fearless, but it is not unwise.
pps...pictures are some of what i see from my back porch on a fine day.

Fearless Friday...

thanks,
your comments comfort me.
i will see {hehe!}
what happens if i persevere
wearing these new glasses.

i was so excited
last tuesday,
when i was at a local school,
that they were involved
with this...

samaritan's purse.

this organisation
helps kids that won't get anything for Christmas.

you get the box,
choose to give to a boy or a girl,
and then choose the age group of the child.
i chose a 5 - 9 year old girl.

then you fill the box with goodies,
something to wear,
something to do,
something to play with,
something for school...

i also put in a skipping rope and a yoyo
and other bits and pieces,
then i made an apron...

while i was sewing,
i was thinking of the little girl
who is going to wear it.

what country will it go to?
 i wonder,
what will she cook?
will she help her mum in it?
feeling warm inside knowing
that someone took some time
to make this especially for her.

will her eyes light up
when she sees all these little goodies?
will she lay them out over and over
just thinking that they are for her?

i think i would if i were that girl.

but even if she doesn't,
i have had the best fun...
picking out girlie things,
thinking and praying for her
and making the little apron.

isn't that the fun of christmas giving?

keep on lovin' this weekend...'til monday, God willing...
