Beating the Blues...

with a
field of daisies today!

good morning,
i hope you're chasing the blues away today too,
doing something you love.

this monday is a public holiday here
so after getting my new print in the mail
from 'katie daisy' on etsy
i framed it with a bright white frame
&
shopped for a pot of daisies!

isn't it a delightful print...
just the kind of cheeriness i need this spring.

mr w won a fifty dollar gift card at mitre 10
so we shopped up a tiny storm
&
had brunch...pies and cappucinos
before he had to head back up north for work.

oh..that i had a real field of daisies to fall asleep in...
now that would be heaven on earth!

thank you
to megan @ mousehouse....see my sidebar for a link...
for showing me this print a couple of weeks ago,
i totally fell in love..hehe.

The Flip Side...

i hope you're all having a lovely time
this afternoon...browsing away and posting to your heart's content!

i'm going to show you the other side to caroline's personality...
yesterday we got to see 'sweet caroline'...
pink and pretty..as one comment said..the cushion was dainty.
i thought that the word 'dainty', was just the right one.

today
carolines cushions are bold and arty...
beautiful in a different way.

lovely large floral prints are sewn in a patch on the front of each cushion...
the colours are bold and deep,
the texture of the fabric is like raw linen.

picture taken on an angle...

two out of three...

thanks caroline...these are a work of art...
and i know that jenny will find just the right people for them.

i'm sure she would love a visit!

funny thing!!
i just checked in to see that the link above to caroline's site was right
and found that being the 400th follower...
she is going to make a few more cushion covers for theodore's flood affected people..yay!
thanks caroline  : )

i'm rapt!

and
today is my mum's birthday!

Grateful for...Good Advice!

it's saturday afternoon again!
doesn't the week go quickly?
i feel like it does anyway...

i am at that point with my cushion collection
 for flood affected queenslanders,
that i will have to decide finally
on where it is best to send them...

i'm throwing it open!

i have a couple of places in mind
and have done a little research...
but i shall be really grateful
if anyone out there knows if there is somewhere,
that hasn't been helped much at all.

maybe it is the area that you live in
and you know your neighbours are struggling
emotionally or physically with the aftermath of the flood.

i will not promise that i will send them where you suggest
but i will promise to take all suggestions seriously...
and contact people in the area to see how or when we should help..
if at all possible.

i know some areas have been in the news
and some tend to be completely overlooked.
if you know of an 'overlooked' area
{and it doesn't necessarily have to be the poorest..
'cos trauma happens to all economic groups}
please email me...

the pictures are of a couple of cushions
i made this morning
out of nancy's fabric...@ a gardner's cottage.
i have one or two more to make up
from her generously donated fabric!

~ 39 cushions collected! ~
{and more are on their way}

i'm linking up with "maxabella loves" today...
there are some great reasons to be grateful there!

Spots and Daisies...

i wanted to sew something blue today.
so this is the cushion i came up with
pictures taken on the black couch...

this can either be the be the back or the front...

interchangeable.

the other side.

i have run out of black grosgrain ribbon for my tags...
so it is sadly tagless : (
the little shop in town has not reopened
since the floods...
i hope it does next week.

my fourth successful buttonholing experience!

can naturally carol sew a button hole or two?
no worries mate!

selvedges...
just love the little birds in a row!

just had to put these three little birds
on the other side...

my happy little cushion collection!

the thought of these
and many more
making a little couch or two
a sunnier
cosier
place to be
kept me sewing this week.

i'm not the fastest cushion maker
or the best...
but that doesn't matter at all...

i just want to do my bit
for fellow aussies
who are doing it tough...

join me if you want to.
leave a comment or an email...
and check out last mondays post

Happy Daisy (and the Curtain)...

i am so sew happy!

i love this new apron...
'happy daisy'...i love the name of it too!
fresh off the sewing machine..
come and have a look ~

loving the spots and the flowers together...

full view of the front...
loving this delicious shade of blue!

changed 'if' to 'y' for a change...
a bit of a nod to george negus (journalist)
who says ' people don't ask 'why' often enough'...

i agree!
asking...
why...has caused creativity and invention
why...curiosity leading to learning and education.

the back view of 'happy daisy'....

her 'name'...

spots, blue ric rac and flowers...

do you like her?

now i've a curtain to show you...
i did three lengths,
so they can be moved along the track,
as and when they are needed to soften light and subdue the heat
in the middle and late afternoon,
in the dining room...

it was hard to photograph...
'cos the curtain makes the room darker...
and has the light from the window at the back of it!

the header...
little machine sewn eyelets
and hanging on metal shower curtain rings
on a rustic pole that came with the house!

the hem...
shows the butterflies...
same fabric as the header.

my machine has been humming along quite happily...
and things are on the up and up!

hoping you are having a satisfying day too, this happy daisy thursday!
nothing like a few happy daisies to have this girl singing...

Lost Dog Finds Good Home...

Once upon a time...
(a few weeks ago)
i found this georgeous fellow

going very cheaply...
sitting in a basket,
at the home for lost dogs and other homeless sweethearts.
(st vinnies)
i paid for him and took him home,
not knowing where i would keep him
at the time.

some time went past,
until my gaze alit on an old cane chair
in desperate need of new attire.
i sewed a little cover for her seat.
she looked much better sitting there
but something was missing
to make her complete.

a few days later...
the old dog leapt sprightly to his feet
and landed neatly on the seat.

i was delighted to find him a home,
then remembered a bunch of
lovely fresh daisies
(that Miss B had discarded)
and thought they may
find that chair comfortable too.

the dog, the chair and the daisies
all live in my sunny front room (that
used to be a porch) and cheerily
greet the visitors who come
knocking at my door.

'til tomorrow...
