Baby Afghan...finished!

good afternoon...
it's a rainy saturday afternoon here.

i didn't think it was going to be
'cos it was sunny and windy this morning...
an excellent day for drying
so i washed a few blankets and hung them out on the clothesline.

i had to quickly fetch them though
when the heavy grey clouds started to close in from the south.

i was up early this morning
tying in woolly threads
to finish my baby sized afghan.

i am pleased with it
&
feel happy to give it to my friend
for her grandbaby.

this is about the limit of my ability in crocheting...
especially at a moment's notice
but another friend who popped in this afternoon
has a book of 101 crochet stitches to lend me
so hopefully i can learn a bit more.

the rest of the day
was filled with another knitting start

&
fetching a few groceries.
our diet has been woeful in the last week or so...
filled with quick meals
and hardly a green leaf in sight.
it was time to rectify this awful situation
&
get a variety of salad veges,
some lovely olives and other seasonal goodies.

do you ever go through periods
where laziness prevails and the dinner table suffers?
{or is it just me?}

oh, well...cheers to you my good friends...
you are an inspiration to me!

Baby Afghan...WIP

have a great weekend everybody!

i have been madly crocheting this afghan
in all my 'spare' minutes this week...
the baby girl is due any time now...
{no..it's not our baby bean!}

her grandma requested this
only last sunday,
so there isn't much time!

i keep my wool from running around
by putting it in a paint tin...
what do you do?

happy creating!

Today is a Special Day!

'cos today is my dad's 80th birthday...

hi dad!

i know you're busy!

i just want a few minutes of your time today...

to wish you a very happy birthday...

and a wonderful year ahead !

you deserve the best !

a little while ago...
i made something for you,

handmade especially for you!

i sent it off to new zealand early
so the big old aussie moths
wouldn't get stuck into it over summer!

{the stamps weren't french!}

mum has probably given it to you by now....

just thought...
you can use it over your knees when writing those radio articles in winter...
or take it on picnics...
or put it in the spare room!

anyway
i hope you enjoy everything
that today will bring!

Aprons and Afghans

I could hardly sleep a wink
as i couldn't believe i had taken this big step
after thinking about it for weeks
and secretly admiring all the others out there
who were expertly managing their blogs...
not knowing whether i could too

i thought that i should acknowledge
the creators of the apron pattern...

these are all Simplicity 4282 view F.

this is another view of the one
i have sewn for Miss B for christmas
(a pat on the back for being so darn organised
...amazing)

i got lost in all that wonderfully pink, pinkness
and loved sewing it, dreaming of eiffel towers
and so much frenchness and prettiness...

but my first attempt at this episode of creativity
was not aprons but afghans
thanks to Michelle at Loving the Vintage
and her granny square tutorial...

i thought i would learn  how to crochet a square
then another and another,
i cannot, it seems, do things by ones.
so i had to use up all the ball of wool
and then get others and use them too...

before i knew it i was crocheting a whole blanket.

it is winging its way from oz to nz as we speak
on a secret engagement to become my wonderful dad's
80th birthday present  in november.

i know it is only nearly september..
i haven't gone crazy but
where i live the moths would have a little nibble
if i didn't send it soon.

my mum and sister in the land of the long white cloud
will ooh and ah over this field of flowers
and then wrap it up with lovely paper
and deliver it safely with love in november for me.

Tomorrow i will show you what i did
with all those leftover flowers...
i just couldn't waste them.

so til tomorrow then Good night
